Which question are you trying to answer?
Most people who contact Dao Capital have already built substantial financial resources.
The uncertainty is no longer simply how to accumulate more.
It is what those resources allow them to do next.
Approaching or in retirement
Have we got enough to retire and enjoy it?
Work out what you can comfortably spend, how the plan holds up if things do not go as expected and which decisions matter now.
Late career or considering a change
When can I step back?
Compare full-time work, three or four days, consulting, a different role or stopping - and see what each choice would mean for your life and money.
You look well set on paper.
The decision can still feel hard.
A retirement calculator can produce a number.
It cannot tell you whether you can book the trip without second-guessing it, or whether another year at work is worth it.
It doesn’t tell you whether you should keep the SMSF or what to do with shares you have held for decades.
Once your money is spread across super, an SMSF, shares, cash, trusts or property, the questions become more important - and less obvious:
Can we actually afford the life we have planned?
Are we being sensible, or simply too cautious?
How much longer do I really need to work?
Should we keep the SMSF and the shares we have held for years?
What would the tax bill be if we changed the portfolio?
Are the wholesale investments we are being shown genuinely useful?
If something happens to me, will my partner be left with a mess?
Advice that’s useful should connect those decisions, get the important changes made and give you someone who already knows the whole picture when the next question arrives.
Advice for people with more to coordinate.
Dao Capital works with Australians approaching retirement, already retired or considering a substantial change to work.
Led by Brian Chung, principal financial adviser.
Clients commonly have substantial super and investments outside of the family home, although fit depends on what needs to be done rather than a balance alone.
Your situation may include:
Superannuation or an SMSF.
Long-held Australian shares or a substantial direct equity portfolio.
ETFs, managed funds, cash and investment property.
Trusts, companies or more than one ownership structure.
Large unrealised gains.
Private credit, private equity or another unlisted investment.
An existing accountant or solicitor whose work needs to be coordinated.
A desire to have one person keeping an eye on the whole picture before important decisions are made.
We start with what you already have.
You may have an SMSF, long-held shares, a trust or investments presented as ‘wholesale’.
We will not assume everything needs replacing, and we will not mistake complexity for sophistication.
We begin with a simpler question: What are you trying to work out, and what does the money need to do for your life?
We look at what each part is doing for you, what it costs, how easily you can access your money and whether it still deserves a place. A share is not kept merely because it is familiar, and it is not sold merely because a model portfolio would be easier. An SMSF is not automatically valuable or unnecessary. A private investment is not useful simply because access is restricted.
Every material recommendation should explain:
What changes.
Why it changes.
What it costs.
Whether you can get your money back when you need it.
What tax bill or other consequence the change may create.
What we would do if things do not go to plan.
Complexity is sometimes necessary. It should still have to earn its place.
A clear plan, help putting it in place and someone who stays across it.
Most people who come to Dao Capital are not looking for another report. They want to know whether they can retire or ease back, get their investments and financial arrangements working together, and have someone they trust to stay across the decisions that follow.
Our advice builds the plan. It can include:
Retirement or step-back choices shown in today's dollars.
What happens if markets disappoint, costs rise or one of you lives longer.
A clear picture of where spending will come from.
Super, pension and SMSF decisions.
Direct shares, diversification and the tax cost of changing long-held investments.
Whether private or wholesale investments are doing a useful job.
What Dao Capital, you, your accountant and your solicitor each need to do next.
Ongoing planning keeps it useful as spending changes, markets move, laws change and family decisions arise.

Advice informed by both ends of the market.
Brian Chung founded Dao Capital after two decades across markets and financial advice.
That experience included direct equity markets, mainstream advice and private wealth environments where wealthier clients are offered restricted-access investments, extra complexity and additional fee layers.
It shaped a practical view. Good advice must understand markets and investments, but it also has to work for the household - lifestyle, structure, tax, and what happens when circumstances change.
Dao Capital is founder led. Clients work directly with Brian on goals, advice and important financial decisions. We coordinate the practical steps that help turn those decisions into action.

You do not have to sell everything and start again.
You may have managed your own investments successfully.
You may want to retain particular shares, your SMSF or your existing accountant.
That is not a problem.
We first understand what you already have, what is working and what is getting in the way. If something should change, you should be able to understand why. We then stay across how those structures and investments support the plan over time.
