Approaching or in retirement
Have we got enough to retire and enjoy it?
Work out what you can comfortably spend, how the plan holds up if things do not go as expected and which decisions matter now.
Designed for Australians with substantial super, investments or an SMSF.
You do not want to run out. You do not want to leave life unlived either.
Perhaps the numbers say you should be fine, but you still hesitate before booking the trip, helping the children or spending more on yourselves.
Perhaps one of you manages the money and the other worries about what would happen if that had to change.
A healthy balance does not automatically answer:
Whether you can retire now rather than in two or three years.
What you can spend without being unnecessarily cautious.
How much flexibility exists for travel, family help or a major purchase.
Whether long-held shares should be retained, reduced or restructured.
How spending should be funded during poor markets.
Whether the SMSF remains useful in retirement.
What happens when one partner dies or can no longer manage the finances.
The answer should show what you can comfortably spend, what needs to go right and what you would do if life or markets turn out differently.
A retirement plan has to make the moving parts work together.
Lifestyle and spending
Work out what you normally spend, what you would like to enjoy, and which larger expenses are coming. Start with your life, not an industry benchmark.
Time and longevity
See what happens if retirement lasts longer, inflation rises or spending changes over time.
Income and liquidity
Identify where regular spending, large expenses and difficult market years will be funded from.
Super and pensions
Coordinate super, pensions, contribution opportunities and required withdrawals, including the rules that limit how much can move into retirement phase.
Investments and tax consequences
Assess concentration, diversification, direct holdings, embedded gains, income, franking, fees and liquidity before proposing change.
SMSF and control
Decide whether the fund still provides benefits worth the responsibilities, administration, and costs.
Family continuity
Make the plan understandable and manageable if the person who currently handles the finances is no longer able to do so.
Running out is not the only retirement risk.
There is a risk in spending too much without margin.
But there is also a real cost to spending far less than your resources could support, delaying retirement by default or keeping an unsuitable structure because changing it feels difficult.
The purpose of modelling is not to predict the future.
It is to compare choices, identify the assumptions that matter and show what action would follow if conditions change.
Your portfolio is considered as it exists - not as a blank page.
Many Dao Capital clients have direct shares, an SMSF or positions accumulated over decades.
Those holdings may carry valuable tax attributes, personal preferences, concentration risk or operational complexity.
Advice should distinguish among:
Assets that still serve the plan.
Assets that should be reduced over time.
Risks that can be managed without an immediate sale.
Changes whose tax or transaction cost exceeds the likely benefit.
Illiquid positions that require a staged plan.
Dao Capital will not promise that nothing needs to change. It will explain why any material change is being proposed.
More than a retirement number.
Our advice compares the retirement dates, spending choices, portfolio changes or SMSF decisions that matter in your household. It shows what Dao Capital recommends, why and what could change the answer.
Implementation turns those decisions into action. Ongoing planning then stays on top of it all as spending, investments, rules and family needs change.
Start with the question you want answered.
If you want more than a retirement number and would value someone staying across the decisions that follow, start with the five-minute assessment.
